Scholarship Recipient
My father got injured on the job when I was younger, around 2012, and it led to him not being able to continue working, and he still deals with the injury. It has led to us getting into debt for payments, and for my mother to become the household provider. The injury my father received is used as one of my motivators for doing my best in school, as it has fueled me to participate in school extracurriculars and to earn high grades. This year, I have struggled with earning scholarships, as I have received many rejections, and it has made me feel very disappointed in myself. Then my counselor, Pedro Ramirez, recommended I apply for the Kids’ Chance of California Scholarship. He had heard about my situation and how this scholarship perfectly applied to a huge change in my life. I now feel more confident in myself and hope to make the most of this scholarship while at the University of Southern California. I want to help other students when I grow older, as KCOCA has helped me.
