Scholarship Recipient
Going away to college was a hard and quick adjustment to life alone and abroad, but support from Kids’ Chance, friends, and family has allowed me to ease into this new chapter of life. These lessons have been invaluable and have contributed to my overall development as a person.
School here is much more manageable, making this transition smoother. The classes are major-focused, meaning all my classes are business-oriented. It really allows me to dive in and get a great understanding to be a master of it. The support of the scholarship has allowed me to focus more on my studies and soccer by relieving some of the financial burden. It allowed me not to work during the school year. This gave me the ability to fully flourish, passing all my classes and excelling on the soccer field as well.
My dad has started a trade school, as returning to work after his injury did not transition well. It was a safety concern because of the effects of his brain injury. He said, luckily, the program is semi-self-paced as he has memory and concentration issues now. He never thought he would be back at school at 50 years old, but he is enjoying being around the young adults that are in the class, as it is like I am around. Life continues to be an adjustment for all of us, but I am grateful to get this experience studying abroad. The Kids’ Chance program and scholarship have helped me take the chance and opportunity to go to college and study abroad. Through this blessing, this has taught me the importance of independence and self-reliance. I have learned to navigate a new environment, manage my time effectively, and I am confident that it will have a lasting impact on my life and career.
